About the Author:
Karen Briggs, B.Sc., is a career horsewoman who began riding at the age of eight and didn’t, as her parents had hoped, “grow out of it.” As an equine nutritionist and horse feed specialist for United Cooperatives of Ontario, a large feed company, she was responsible for researching, designing, and marketing a new line of premium quality feeds for performance, pleasure, and breeding horses, and for providing common-sense nutritional information and ration balancing to customers across the province of Ontario.
She is also a Canadian Equestrian Federation certified riding instructor, and has managed farms and riding schools in both Canada and Bermuda. Over the past 25 years Karen has worked at both Standardbred and Thoroughbred racing stables, and competed in disciplines as diverse as Western pleasure, competitive trail, and dressage. She currently concentrates on three-day eventing, and provides nutritional advice on a consulting basis. She writes for numerous equine magazines.
