Q&A with Bill Heller

Bill Heller, a freelance writer in Albany, New York, won the 1997 Eclipse Award for Magazine Writing for his story, “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” in The Backstretch magazine. He also is a three-time winner of the John Hervey Award for Harness Racing Magazine Writing. Heller won the 1999 Bill Leggett Breeders’ Cup magazine writing award and a 2000 writing award from the American Horse Publications. He currently writes for the Thoroughbred Times, The Backstretch, and Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred.

Heller has authored eleven other books, including Forego— Thoroughbred Legends; Go for Wand—Thoroughbred Legends; Obsession—Bill Musselman’s Relentless Quest; Overlay, Overlay; The Will To Win—The Ron Turcotte Story; Travelin’ Sam—America’s Sports Ambassador; Billy Haughton—The Master; and Playing Tall—The 10 Shortest Players in NBA History.
