Round
Table : Thoroughbred Legends
John McEvoy
Pub Date: May 2002. Round Table, a racing icon
of the 1950s, was a blue-collar hero who never
disappointed his fans. A model of consistency, the amazingly
durable Round Table raced 66 times, winning 43 times (31
in stakes) at distances from four furlongs to a mile and
five-eighths, at 15 different tracks from one end of the
U. S. to the other. He set three American records, equaled
one world record, set 10 track records, and equaled another
two. Those 16 record efforts are the most ever compiled
by an American racehorse.
In addition, Round Table became the finest grass horse
ever produced in this country, winning 14 of his 16 starts
over that surface and setting or matching four records.
Author John McEvoy, who witnessed some of Round Tables
exploits, follows the horse from birth to retirement and
brings to life the many people who had a hand in his greatness.
